Over the last two decades almost half of the Kenyan population has lived below the poverty line (Oluoko-Odingo). For Kenyan girls,opportunity is scarce and the probability of escaping poverty is low compared to Kenyan boys. This is due to current social and cultural attitudes and institutional barriers. The most important positive agent of change for disadvantaged women is access to quality education. B.E.N. aims to provide this opportunity in a supportive environment.
